Everyone loves the sweet taste of Maple Syrup, but do you know how it’s made? Well, a visit to Thurman, New York will make it all clear. When the temperature hovers around 20 degrees F a tree is selected, a hole is drilled and a tap inserted.  As spring approaches and the days warm sap begins to flow into either a bucket or vacuum tubing for collection.  After the sap has is collected it is boiled so the water will evaporate.  The result is the golden and delightful maple syrup.

Only 10 miles from Friends Lake Inn is the small Town of Thurman, New York and is home to four maple sugar producers.
