While Gore Mountain is most known for its spectacular ski season, there are plenty of things to do there during the summer and fall months as well. One of our favorite activities is downhill mountain biking, and Gore Mountain offers riders of all abilities and skill-level a beautiful place to feel the rush. The challenging lift-serviced terrain descends 1700′ vertically down wooded routes and across wide-open ski trails. Experienced riders find these trails a thrilling adventure.Â
For those who may need a less intense biking option in Upstate New York, Revolution Rail Co. allows riders to peddle a custom-made four-wheel bike along railroad tracks, long closed to train traffic. It’s one of the most scenic ways to enjoy the beautiful Adirondacks. These recumbent-style bikes make this an accessible activity for all skill levels of riders. There are two locations near Lake George, the North Creek Station (about 30 minutes) and the Thurman Station (only 15 minutes).
Our Adirondack lodging property is the best place to stay in Upstate New York for those heading to the Adirondacks with mountain biking plans on the itinerary. Gore Mountain: Best Mountain Biking in Upstate NY
Exploring by bike in the Adirondacks is such a great way to enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful, untouched wilderness in Upstate NY. Gore Mountain is an all-seasons resort, allowing experienced riders to fly down the ski trails.
Here are the top three mountain biking trails at Gore Mountain ranging in difficulty:Â
- Hardwood Forest Loop: This easy singletrack loop behind the Gore Base Lodge is best for those just starting mountain biking training. There’s a short rock garden where you can practice shifting and maintaining pedal strokes on descents and climbs through the woods. Stop along the route to read fascinating signage alongside the 1.2-mile interpretive trail.Â
- Ruby Run Trail: This .04-mile main thoroughfare from the top of the gondola at Gore Mountain is considered “more difficult” but is known as an excellent warmup run before heading into the woods. Ruby Run is a shared route for hikers and bikers, offering access to the entire trail network.
- Sidewinder: A “most difficult” intermediate trail is the longest singletrack downhill route clocking in at 3.3 miles. The trail heads from the Saddle Lodge to the Base Area. This winding trail is shared with hikers and crosses several popular ski trails before weaving into the woods to test your skills on challenging maneuvers over roots, rocks, bridges, and banked turns.
Revolution Rail Co. is the best way to explore for those who would instead enjoy a leisurely peddle through the Adirondacks forests and mountainous terrain! The North Bridge Run, about 20 minutes from our Adirondack lodging property takes riders on a seven-mile out-and-back trip through the beautiful forest canopy and then over the Hudson River across a trestle bridge.Â
